TCA Chemical Peels

After years of sun exposure has taken its toll on your face, you may be left with skin that is rough, dull, splotchy, and uneven color or tone.

There is a myriad of options available for treating skin that is showing symptoms of age and sun damage, but for best results, professional facial treatments are the best solution.

The Rejuva Center at Williams offers several options to help restore your skin — leaving patients with a fresh, youthful glow.

One such option is a medical level chemical peel, a treatment designed to improve not only the appearance but the quality of the skin on the face and neck.

Depending on the condition of your skin and the degree of damage, as well as your desired results, a chemical peel could be the ideal solution. It is an effective, minimally invasive way to immediately rejuvenate the skin.

What is a Chemical Peel?

Chemical peels work by removing the outer layers of damaged skin, revealing the fresh, healthy skin underneath.

Despite the name, chemical peels are derived from acids found in milk, fruit, and other naturally occurring acids.

Peels are available in several strengths, including light, medium, and deep peels.

A stronger acid is used in a higher concentration during a deep peel to penetrate further into the skin to treat more severe skin conditions.

Before undergoing a chemical peel, patients go through a consultation process with one of our highly trained and experienced staff members.

We provide consultations to ensure this type of treatment is the best way to address potential skin concerns and provide you with optimal results.

While patients with darker skin may see favorable results from a chemical peel, patients with fair skin are generally better candidates for chemical peels, as there is less risk for pigmentation issues and an uneven skin tone post-procedure.

Additionally, patients with a history of scarring, recurring cold sores, or skin sensitivities from certain medications may not be ideal candidates for a chemical peel. Patients with a history of cold sores would be put on prophylactic medications to prevent cold sores from developing. To help ensure safe and beautiful results, it is essential for our staff to discuss a patient’s medical history with them to determine if a chemical peel is the right treatment for them.

What to Expect From Your Chemical Peel

At The Rejuva Center at Williams, our TCA chemical peels are administered by our Licensed Medical Providers, and 35% or more peels are administered in our fully accredited New England Laser and Cosmetic Surgery Center.

The process can take anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour to complete.

Prior to receiving the chemical peel, your face will be thoroughly cleansed so that the oil is removed, allowing the TCA solution to penetrate more evenly.

The chemical peel is then applied to the face. Patients may experience a slight stinging sensation as the peel begins to work its magic.

The amount of recovery after a TCA peel will depend upon the strength of the peel.

Patients undergoing a 10% TCA peel can expect a recovery period of two to three days. Those undergoing a stronger 25% to 35% TCA peel may require one to two weeks of recovery.

By the second- or third-day post-treatment, the skin will begin to flake and peel, which typically lasts between seven to 14 days.

This process is painless, but it is essential that you don’t peel any skin that does not come off easily, as this raises your risk for scarring.

Once the treated skin has peeled off, the newly rejuvenated skin will be sensitive to the sun for at least two months. It is recommended that you apply sunscreen and avoid sun exposure as much as possible.

If questions or concerns arise, contact us to make sure that you are caring for your skin correctly to encourage the healing process.

TCA Peel Results

Patients will begin to see the results of the TCA chemical peel treatment once the peeling is complete. And continued improvements will be seen over the next 30 to 60 days.

If several treatments are needed to achieve your desired results, a member of our staff will work with you to create an individualized treatment plan that includes a schedule for future treatments.

Results of TCA chemical peels can be lasting, depending on the depth of the peel and how well the skin has been cared for after the treatment.

Medical-grade skincare products and complementary procedures are also offered to enhance and prolong your results.
