The list below answers some questions that new patients might have or would like to know before Botox® treatment.

Botox® - Frequently Asked Questions

  • 01.What is Botox®?

Botox® or Botulinum toxin type A was the first injectable treatment that was FDA-approved in 1989 to temporarily smooth and relax moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines in adults.

  • 02.Is there Any Downtime After Treatment?

Treatment requires minimal downtime. You can return to your daily routine immediately after you leave your aesthetic specialist’s office.

  • 03.How Long Does Botox® Last?

Botox® results last for 3-4 months for most patients. Some may see longer results, 4-6 months and some less, 2 months.

  • 04.Will My Face Go Back to Normal After Botox®?

Your face will return to its natural state once the treatment wears off. No more or no less wrinkles.

  • 05.Will My Face Look Unnatural or Overdone?

Botox® is a technique-sensitive treatment. You can trust Botox to deliver subtle results when you are treated by someone who is licensed, trained, and a medical expert in facial anatomy, such as our specialists at The Rejuva Center. So, you will look like yourself—with less noticeable fine lines and wrinkles.

  • 06.How Long Does Botox® Treatment Take & Does it Hurt?

Very small needles are used for Botox® injections to minimize any discomfort. Botox injections feel like a pinch and typically take less than 10 minutes to administer treatment. Your specialist may use ice or topical numbing cream to numb the treatment area prior.

  • 07.How Long Before I See Results?

You will notice decreased facial muscle movements within 5-7 days, with full results peaking at 2 weeks from your initial Botox® treatment. Based on your lifestyle and metabolism, Botox results can last up to four months.

Botox unit dosing equals duration. Remember that results vary from patient to patient, so your medical provider will help plan your next appointment based on your aesthetic goals. See our patients’ Botox before and after results gallery in the lower face, upper face, lips, neck, and nose.

  • 08.How Long is the Recovery Time After Treatment?

Treatment requires minimal social downtime. You may have small bumps for 30 minutes to an hour post injection. If you are on blood thinners or take certain medications, you may be more likely to bruise. Speak to your medical provider about pre and post care instructions before your Botox® treatment.

  • 09.What are Common Botox® Side Effects?

Some common Botox® side effects are injection-site bruising, bleeding, redness, and swelling that may occur after injections.

  • 10.How Much Botox® will I Receive or Need?

    • Treatment is customized to your aesthetic goals and needs.
    • It depends on the severity of your wrinkles and what areas of the face and neck you treat.
    • The degree of movement in each area you would like to soften and or preserve.
    • The number of times, units and previous Botox® treatments you have had.
    • Your medical history and certain medical conditions or lifestyle can also play a role in how much Botox® is recommended.
  • 11.What Should You Avoid Before Botox®?

    • Avoid taking aspirin or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as Ibuprofen, Advil, Motrin, Nuprin, Aleve, Celebrex, and Fish oil and other blood thinning medications and supplements.
    • Avoid alcoholic beverages for 24 hours prior to the procedure, as this can increase the risk of bleeding and bruising when you are being treated.
  • 12.What Should I Avoid After treatment?

    • Rubbing or pushing on the treated areas of your face.
    • Facial massages or other aesthetic facial treatments.
    • Lying directly on your face.
    • Strenuous exercise.
    • Alcohol and blood thinning medications.

If you have complications or concerns after Botox treatment, please contact your provider right away.
