Hands

While you may not notice it, your hands age just like the rest of the skin on your body – and in fact, may even show signs of aging earlier than other areas. Sun damage, chronic dryness and daily wear and tear can have an adverse effect on the skin on your hands, while the passage of time also shows itself in a loss of volume in the back of your hands. Suddenly, your skin looks looser, your bones, veins and tendons are more prominent, and dark age spots begin to show. When this occurs, no matter how diligent you’ve been about taking care of the skin on your face, your visibly aging hands give you away. At The Rejuva Center at Williams, we understand that aging doesn’t only affect your face. To that end, we offer several nonsurgical options that are proven effective for addressing signs of aging on your hands, restoring their smooth, youthful appearance.

Volume Loss in Your Hands

Just as your face loses volume when you age, the backs of your hands also fall victim to reduced collagen production and your skin begins to thin. The fat pads that cushion the backs of your hands diminish, and before you know it, the bony structures of your hands are much more noticeable than they were in your youth. With age, the production of new collagen decreases, and the existing collagen in your body weakens. Without a steady production of this essential protein, your skin slowly loses the elasticity, tone and volume that it once had. While the lack of collagen is present everywhere, it is most evident in your hands and face, making you appear older than you really are. However, just as injectable fillers can be used to restore volume to your cheeks and lips, they can also be used to do the same for the backs of your hands. At The Rejuva Center at Williams, we typically use Radiesse to boost volume in your hands. Radiesse is a filler that contains calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres designed to stimulate your body’s production of collagen. When injected into the treatment area, Radiesse not only provides an immediate increase in volume, but even as the carrier gel is absorbed over time, the healthy new collagen that was activated by the CaHA microspheres remains. The result? Longer-lasting, more beautiful results.

If injectable fillers aren’t your choice of treatment, we also offer microneedling. Microneedling is yet another method for inducing collagen production, naturally helping to restore volume to your hands. It works by using a device equipped with tiny sterile needles, which while it sounds painful, is virtually painless. The device is moved across your hands, and the punctures from the needles cause your body’s injury response to kick in. This injury response includes ramping up collagen production, and with regular microneedling sessions, the natural increase in collagen will help restore volume and rejuvenate your hands.

Wrinkling and Age Spots on Your Hands

While the skin on your hands may seem tougher than the skin on your face, there comes a point when years of daily wear and tear as well as neglect of the skin on your hands begins to show. When you apply sunscreen, do you remember to protect your hands? Are you diligent about keeping the backs of your hands hydrated? For most people, the answer is no – no one gives a lot of thought to sunscreen or moisturizer on the backs of their hands. Unfortunately, lack of care will end up costing you in the end, as sun damage and wrinkles begin to show themselves.

At The Rejuva Center at Williams, we offer several non-invasive treatments designed to address wrinkles and age spots on your hands, including:

  • Microneedling – as explained above, microneedling boosts collagen, which can help to smooth out lines and wrinkles. Additionally, microneedling can target dark spots, breaking up the excess melanin (skin pigment) that causes them and leaving you with a more even skin tone.
  • elos Plus Skin Rejuvenating System – this treatment provides three different ways to treat wrinkling, loss of volume and dark spots on your skin. One applicator uses intense pulsed light (IPL) combined with radiofrequency (RF) to even out skin tone and minimize the appearance of dark spots. The second applicator (known as “Sublime”) uses a combination of radiofrequency and infrared light to stimulate collagen, tightening loose and wrinkled skin. The third applicator (known as “Sublative”) uses RF energy to resurface and repair the texture of your skin, minimizing fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Topicals – Topical treatments such as Triple Action, although typically used for acne and other facial problems, can also be used to lighten hyperpigmentation while also improving your hand’s skin texture.

In all cases, these treatments may require more than one session for optimal results, but one of our highly trained and experienced staff will work with you to determine which treatment will provide you with the superior results you desire.

Excessive Sweating

Any type of hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) can be an embarrassing and uncomfortable condition and can have an adverse impact on your confidence. Sweaty hands are an especially difficult problem, and because most social situations require handshakes, you may avoid events that you would otherwise enjoy attending, simply because you don’t want to deal with excessively sweaty palms. At Williams Rejuva, not only do we treat aging hands, but we can also address issues of hyperhidrosis of the hands using Botox. As most people know, when used to treat wrinkles, Botox works by immobilizing targeted muscles in your forehead, thereby keeping the wrinkles in the area from etching themselves further into your skin. When used to treat excess sweating, Botox targets the overactive nerves that trigger your sweat glands, which in turn prevents you from sweating. As a result, your palms remain dry and you can confidently shake hands with everyone at the party.
