Mouth

The delicate skin around your mouth is vulnerable to a host of changes over time, as age, gravity and environmental factors all take their toll. Wrinkles may be one concern that often appear around the mouth, particularly above the upper lip line. Other issues might include thinning of the lips and fluctuations to the shape and appearance of the mouth that might make you look persistently worried or angry.

At The Rejuva Center at Williams, we know how those seemingly small changes can have a profound impact on how you see yourself, and your self-confidence overall. We offer a variety of solutions for those aging symptoms to rejuvenate the area around your mouth, restoring your youthful vitality. Through personalized assessments and treatments that cater to your unique concerns and goals, we can meet your expectations beautifully.

Lip Lines

Known technically as perioral lines, and dubbed lipstick lines and smoker’s lines as well, these fine wrinkles that feather out from the upper lip can make you appear much older than you feel. Unfortunately, they can also be very challenging to hide under makeup.

The good news is that there are a variety of ways to diminish lip lines and create a smoother appearance. Injections of dermal fillers smooth and plump the area from the inside out, while procedures like chemical peels and microneedling offer full skin rejuvenation.

There are a few different factors that might contribute to the visibility of lip lines:

  • Collagen loss, which leads to loose, thinning skin and the formation of wrinkles
  • Skin dryness, which makes it easier for skin creases to form
  • Persistent puckering, from smoking or sucking on straws
  • Sun damage that accelerates collagen loss and the appearance of facial lines

Wrinkling

Lip lines aren’t the only signs of aging that can appear around the mouth. Wrinkles might also form between the nose and mouth (nasolabial folds), in the corners of the mouth (smile lines) and from the mouth to the jawline (marionette lines). The most common culprit in the development of these creases is typically collagen loss. As levels of this vital protein diminish over time, the skin loses its support in the underlying dermal structure. This process leads to skin laxity and the creation of deep facial lines.

Known as static wrinkles, these lines are best treated with injections of dermal fillers. The fillers restore the support that is missing in the lower dermal layers to create a smoother, line-free appearance. At the same time, some dermal fillers stimulate the body to produce additional collagen for natural results that last even longer.

Downturned Corners

If you have noticed your smile has evolved into a perpetual frown, you may be able to blame the passage of time for those changes as well.

When the corners of your mouth start to pull down, there are a variety of reasons why this might occur:

  • Loss of collagen leads to skin laxity and sagging in the lower face
  • Marionette lines form from the mouth to the chin, pulling the corners of the mouth down
  • The jaw bone can become thinner and rotate backward
  • Contraction of the mandible muscle “trains” mouth in this position

A downturned mouth can also be hereditary. In this case, it might appear at a much younger age, causing even more self-consciousness in the appearance.

The best solution for this issue is an injectable treatment, which can be performed in our office in just a few quick minutes. Dermal fillers are the most common procedure, since they can restore support to the dermal structure that shifts the shape of the mouth. If the mandible muscle is to blame, small amounts of Botox can also be administered to release the muscle and allow the corners of the mouth to turn back up again.

Thinning Lips

Lips can also change over time, which can lead to a much thinner pout than you had in your youth. Blame those thinning lips on collagen depletion, which is the same culprit in the formation of many of the lines and wrinkles discussed above. As collagen levels decline, your once voluminous pucker may now be barely noticeable, causing an imbalance in your facial features.

The best way to restore your lip shape is with strategically placed injections of a smooth filler that adds subtle volume to the area. We offer a variety of fillers at The Rejuva Center at Williams, so we can customize your procedure to your unique concerns and aesthetic goals. There is no downtime after lip filler injections, and you can sport your more youthful look for many months in most cases.
