This patient had severe acne scarring as well as significant sun damage. Following combined resurfacing she has a significant decrease in the pitted scars and improvement in the overall texture of the skin. Note the improvement in both the hyperpigmented sun-spots near her nose, as well as an improvement in the acne scarring on the lower face and chin.

This is a 67 year old woman who was concerned with the lines around her mouth, especially those on her upper lip. The upper lip lines responded well to the CO2 Laser treatment. It is important to note that fold lines from the edge of the nose to the corner of the mouth and those from the corner of the mouth to the chin are very difficult lines to correct. The recommended treatment for these lines are fillers such as Collagen, Restylane or Radiesse (Radiance). The post operative pictures shown were taken 2 years after her procedure. The patient is very pleased with her results.

This patient demonstrates the pitted scars on the cheeks and the temple region which are significantly reduced in the post-operative photo following combined resurfacing. The lateral view again shows the significant reduction in the deep scars following combined resurfacing.

This was a child that I initially saw in the Vascular Birthmark Clinic. She was at a point where she had a disfiguring Hemangioma of a mild to moderate degree but as with most children, once they become 3-4 years of age they start to develop a body image. A small excision was performed as an outpatient and here is Ryan as a 10 year old with virtually no trace of having had this procedure performed when she was 2 ½ years of age. We feel that earlier intervention when appropriate benefits children in a very positive way especially as they start to enter school age. There is now data to suggest that children who feel good about themselves perform better in school and these are the primary reasons that we encourage this when appropriate and when there is a high likelihood that the vascular birthmark will persist in the school years.

Notice the improvement of this patient's portwine stain birthmark after multiple treatments with the pulse dye laser. Early treatment with this laser can help prevent nodular irregularities and possible scar contracture formation. "To anyone who is thinking of having any kind of procedure from Dr. Williams; As you can see, from my pictures, I was born with a very large "portwine stain" birthmark. I spent my whole life wearing turtle neck shirts, using make-up, and basically hiding fromthe world because of the stares and comments I received....unfortunately, the world can be cruel. After 42 years of my life spent this way, I was told I should go see Dr. Williams by another doctor, that knew my birthmark kept me from living the life I could be. I can only say that from the first day I walked into the Williams Center and met Dr. Williams and his excellent staff, my whole life has changed, of course, for the better. I need to have updated pictures taken, as of right now, my birthmark is practically gone, and I am one very grateful patient, and will NEVER be able to thank Dr. Williams, and his wonderful staff, enough. If you are looking at these pictures and you're thinking about having a procedure done at the Williams Center, I can only say, do it, it will be the best decision you've ever made. Dr. Williams performed multiple pulse dye laser treatments on this patient. The color changed from a deep red-purplish color to a pink. Notice the improvement seen especially on her nose and upper lip. These procedures were performed under sedation in our surgery center allowing full treatment without discomfort. She has received treatment with the pulse dye laser which has caused a significant lightening of the lesion, it has also decreased the nodularity. Age: 11 Jake is an 11 year-old who was initially seen at the Albany Medical Vascular Birthmark Clinic by Dr. Williams with an expanding left cheek Hemangioma. The Hemangioma did not resolve by the time he was of school age and he was beginning to develop a negative self-image and become the source of some ridicule. He underwent excision of this as an outpatient and treatment with the pulse dye laser and we can see a very nice result from this minor surgical procedure.

This was aggressively treated with the pulse dye laser and, as you can see, he has had a nice response saving him from much of the teasing and ridicule that can occur when these do not spontaneously resolve on their own. This is a patient who presented initially in the Vascular Birthmark Clinic over ten years ago. She had a massive lower lip Hemangioma that was bleeding and ulcerated and causing problems with feeding. We initially treated this aggressively and eventually ended up performing a surgical repair of the lower lip. She returns most recently now at 14 years of age for some touch-up work on her lower lip. She has had a very nice improvement and she is extremely pleased with the overall progress.

This is a young man who was born out of the country and traveled here for treatment in our Center. He grew up with a massive right facial vascular malformation which was not only disfiguring but painful. He received a great degree of ridicule and social isolation. He traveled here for surgical removal of this which was performed and he traveled back to his country of origin. He emailed us photographs approximately one year later and, as you can see, he has healed up nicely and has had a nice improvement from the surgical repair of his massive right facial vascular malformation.

This is a delightful young woman who saw us initially when she was two years of age with a Hemangioma of the nasal tip area. This can be seen on her angle view especially on the left side with a full tip that gives the appearance of a Polly-beak. This was addressed with removal and she was kind enough to send us a photograph now that she is 14 years old and has followed up with the practice. Even though this was a fairly subtle issue for this patient, these issues can be significant when a child enters school and begins to be the recipient of ridicule. She appears very well adjusted.

This was a 4 ½ year old who had a Hemangioma at birth that was on her right arm. This grew rapidly and ulcerated and she was at a point where she was starting to become ridiculed on the playground. The parents were looking for an opinion. A debulking resection procedure was performed with a multiple z-plasty repair. Here she can be seen in the post-operative photograph ready for laser therapy. The laser therapy will lighten up that areas of redness and flatten out the Hemangioma. As one can see, this was certainly a problem for her being very self-conscious and these are the type of Hemangiomas have been for many years somewhat neglected with the family being told “this will go away.” Fortunately with a relatively small procedure this can be addressed by a well-trained contemporary surgeon.
