Radiesse

If you are plagued by lines and wrinkles that continue to etch themselves deeper into your face, or have started to notice hollowing in your cheeks and temples, as well as thinning lips, you may want to explore the benefits of injectable fillers. At The Rejuva Center at Williams, we offer a variety of filler options designed to address your anti-aging needs, whether you wish to smooth wrinkles or restore volume. One such option is Radiesse, a dermal filler made with collagen-boosting ingredients that offers immediate and lasting aesthetic results.

What is Collagen?

Before you can understand how Radiesse works to boost your skin’s collagen production, you first need to understand what collagen is and how it functions in your skin. Your skin is composed of several elements, including two proteins that are vital building blocks for beautiful, youthful skin – collagen and elastin. These proteins are responsible for keeping skin smooth and supple, and allow it to quickly bounce back from damage. But as you age, the existing collagen and elastin in your skin begin to weaken and break down, while the production of healthy new collagen and elastin slows. While this process is gradual, it eventually leads to a visible loss in volume, elasticity and tone, as well as the appearance of folds and wrinkles.

Besides the genetic and environmental factors that contribute to wrinkles and volume loss, these issues can also be attributed to the depletion of existing collagen and the decline in new collagen production. When you choose a collagen-boosting filler (like Radiesse) to address signs of aging on your face, not only does it provide immediate rejuvenation, but it also offers natural-looking, lasting results.

How Does Radiesse Work?

Radiesse® is made up of calcium-based microspheres suspended in a gel carrier. The gel immediately fills in lines and wrinkles, as well as plumping up areas that have lost volume, while the microparticles work to activate your body’s natural production of collagen. As the microparticles stimulate the regeneration of fresh collagen, they also serve as scaffolding to support that new collagen. You will eventually see y an increase in volume and a decrease in the visibility of your lines and wrinkles. The collagen regrowth process may continue for up to a year, offering longer- lasting results as your healthy new collagen replaces the gel filler.

Radiesse® is typically used to treat nasolabial folds, marionette lines, perioral lip lines (also known as “lipstick lines”), and downturned corners of the mouth (oral commissures). Radiesse can also be used to treat volume loss in the midface.

What to Expect From Your Radiesse Session

At The Rejuva Center at Williams, all of our injectable treatments are performed right in our office by one of our experienced staff. We have physicians, nurse practitioners and registered nurses, each of which have been highly trained to provide you with gorgeous, natural results. Radiesse is a minimally invasive procedure that requires no anesthesia and no downtime for recovery – in fact, you can immediately return to work or other daily activities without anyone ever knowing that you had an aesthetic treatment. However, it is recommended that you avoid strenuous activities and exercise and stay out of the sun for at least the first 24 hours after your injections, or until any swelling or redness or swelling has dissipated.

Your Cosmetic Nurse Specialist will mark the areas targeted for treatment, and precisely inject Radiesse into those areas. Each injection session takes under 30 minutes and is virtually painless. Side effects after Radiesse injections, if any, are mild and temporary. It is normal to experience minor bruising, redness and swelling around the injection sites, but this will resolve on its own in a day or two. Less common side effects include hard bumps or itching at the injection sites, but again, these are mild and will resolve quickly.

Are You a Good Candidate for Radiesse?

Most patients who choose Radiesse are between the ages of 35-60, though nearly anyone of any age can take advantage of the benefits of Radiesse, including both women and men who:

  • Have moderate to severe facial folds and wrinkles
  • Are non-smokers and in good health overall
  • Are not ready for invasive cosmetic surgery
  • Have realistic expectations of potential results
  • Understand that fillers require regular reinjection to maintain best results

If you have a history of allergies or anaphylactic reactions, injectable fillers may not be the best option for you. Your Cosmetic Nurse Specialist will go over your medical history to determine if Radiesse is the best solution for your needs.
